Jacob Colker recently participated in Mashable’s Startups for Good Challenge — a competition designed to reward businesses that make a positive social impact. Mashable, the popular technology news site named Sparked — Colker’s microvolunteering network — one of eight startups that are changing the world. Mashable lauded the service for being “as fun, social, and easy to use as Facebook, Farmville or Twitter”.

Colker attended the Social Good Summit in New York City, where Sparked and seven other finalists competed onstage to receive a US$10,000 prize. After eight compelling presentations, a panel of judges selected solar energy startup SunSaluter as the winner.
